After putting all the elements together, and adding a slight shadow to the bike, to give it a more realistic feel. The bike and the Flat pack part are all finished. Now we just need to create the packaging together for the water bottles and the bike chain. At the moment we are thinking of crafting it out of an egg box, or similar material. The cardboard pulb gives it a natural feel and is also highly recyclable, Following again Quorns, tagline 'better for you, better for the planet.' The two water bottles will be in the place of 5 eggs, one water bottle each side, and the box injection moulded around the bottles, to hold them securely in place.
After creating the instructions in a style similar to Ikeas flat pack picture instructions, we decided that we wouldn't need to include words as then people in all languages would be able to understand how to assemble the bike. Above are the final instructions for the bike assembly. These would be engraved/ branded onto the bike, to save on printing and to prevent the use of plastics or inks, many of which cannot be recycled. We created how the Instructions would look, so they can be transferred onto the bike image, using photoshop. How the instructions will look, engraved onto the flat pack bike packaging (above). This is how the Quorn logo will look once it has been engraved onto the bike. We created a similar version of this earlier in the project, but since then have changed the type of wood we wanted to use; a lighter in colour and weight, a pine wood. Finalising the logo. We decided to create a new logo, because the Quorn Klen bike is a separate sub brand from Quorn, so does not need to have a logo that looks exactly the same. The new Klen logo uses a water droplet with a slight gradient to show how the dirty, darker water changes into the clean, sky blue colour, representing the clean water. We also needed to create a black logo which will make it easier to transfer onto the branded wood. The typeface, is Helvetica light, due to the fact we wanted one thats simple, and clean, again representing the ethos of the Klen bike. Below is how the logo will look on the bike wood, once it has been engraved, by a template and a machine.
After re-searching online we have come up with the idea of using a wooden water bottle with a built in filter at the bottom, and also including a wooden holder for the bottles.
After much experimentation we have decided to produce a 2D version of the bike and the flat pack feature that it comes in. We need to include the branding a little more realistically and the instructions for how to put the bike together.
We have decided to create the bike Branding using engraved logos and instructions, instead of stickers as these will be better for the environment, However for the moment, just to visualise the idea i have put the full colour logos in, to see if they will fit into the desired space.
After creating the side on profile and the flat pack 2dimensional drawing, I quickly coloured the wood to show, which bits were which, i.e. the handle, the hinges and the wood.
Now to make this look real! Also i need to add the branding, the bottles and the filter mechanism. |
